FAQ: Hie Bag V2 - Have Baby Will Travel
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

What does "Hie" stand for or mean?

Hie is an English word that has been part of the lexicon since the 12th Century. It means “to go quickly,” something we want parents to be able to do without being bogged down by a poorly functioning diaper bag!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How is Hie v2 different than your original Hie Bag design?

Hie v2 comes in new colors and its exterior is a totally new, woven, tweed-like material. Hie v2 does still charge your phone, BUT you’ll supply your battery pack of choice; we supply the USB receptacle. Finally, our new closure mechanism is more intuitive and is fantastic for over-packers!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Why are you changing the Hie Diaper Bag?

We decided we wanted to make the perfect parent bag even perfect-er! Our biggest change, removing the Joey Charging System in favor of simply adding an integrated USB port, decreases the end consumer’s cost and allows us to ship this bag anywhere in the world. And when we received feedback about Hie v1, it almost always concerned the closure mechanism, so we revamped it to make it more intuitive and to actually add some packing capacity to the bag!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Is the Hie Bag v2 a different size?

No, it is the same size as v1.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What color is Hie's inner lining?

Hie v2’s inner lining is a nice medium gray.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Why is v2’s interior a different color than v1’s?

These non-neutral colors like Bay and Crane simply look best with a nice medium gray interior! We went with a medium shade so that it doesn’t show dirt but also doesn’t look like a ‘black hole’ of disorganization.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What else is different?

We upgraded the fabric that makes up the outside of Hie (Bag, Pod, Wallet). It’s a woven tweed. Still water-resistant and wipeable, but even more beautiful and high-quality.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What is the discount if I am a backer?

The discount varies a bit by backer level. The estimated MSRP of the Hie v2 Diaper Bag is $145. The MSRP of the Changing Pod is $44.99. The MSRP of the Wallet is $34.99.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Can you create another tier with only X + Y?

We’re sorry! We crafted the pledge/reward tiers with our goals for this campaign in mind. We believe there’s a little something for everybody!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Can I increase my pledge?

Yes! You can tap or click “Manage your pledge” at any time and move between backer levels, as long as there are slots available in your chosen tier, until the campaign ends.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Will this campaign sell out?

No, the Kickstarter campaign cannot sell out. If our funding goal is met, we will continue to accept pledges until the campaign ends in 30 days.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Why are some tiers limited?

In order to reward our earliest backers, the tiers that offer the best value are limited to a certain number of slots. When those slots are filled, that rewards tier has filled up; this does not mean the campaign has sold out.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How does the Early Bird Special work?

The Rewards tier labeled “Hie Will Always Love You” is an Early Bird Special. It’s the rewards package that gets you the best value, so it is limited to the earliest backers who want it. It will be available for the first 48 hours of the campaign, or for the first 300 backers who select it, depending on which of those conditions is satisfied first.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Can I change my payment information? What if we get a new bank account?

Yes! Simply log into Kickstarter and click on your own profile. You will be able to manage your payment methods from there, including adding a new card.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will be charged at the end of this 30-day Kickstarter campaign, May 15.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Do I need the full funds in my account when I pledge?

No, Kickstarter will only verify that the card number you enter is an activated, real card.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How do shipping charges work? Is shipping included in the pledge amount?

Shipping charges are calculated by weight and the carriers’ rates and will be charged in addition to the pledge amount.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Are the GroVia diapers in the rewards tiers only O.N.E. Diapers?

Yes! This is a tribute to our company’s original Kickstarter Campaign which brought the O.N.E. Diaper to market!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

The Rewards Tier graphic shows items in certain colors. Does the tier I select determine what colors I get?

No. The graphic is just for visual reference. You will select a bag from the available colors: Crane, Bay, and Jet. You will select GroVia O.N.E. Diapers, Pail Liners, and Zippered Wetbags from among the available choices: Crane, Jet, and Have Baby Will Travel.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Will GroVia be releasing these colors/this print later?

GroVia’s production calendar is laid out for the rest of 2019 and there are no plans to make more than the Kickstarter backer rewards at this time.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Will I be able to select the colors I want for my rewards? Can I mix and match colors?

Yes and yes. You will make specific selections for each item in your rewards package by filling out a Backer Rewards Survey after the Kickstarter campaign has closed.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What is the Backer Rewards Survey and when do we receive it?

When the Hie v2 Kickstarter campaign has completely closed and backer pledges are converted into capital for the production of Hie v2 (i.e. backers’ cards are charged), backers will receive a Backer Rewards Survey in their email inbox. In the survey, you will be able to indicate your color choices. You will also provide your mailing address at this time.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is the service we use for our backers to submit their surveys and make their choices.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Will there be add-ons like there were during the first Hie campaign?

Yes, we will offer add-ons through BackerKit, but they will be structured differently to make it more efficient for our fulfillment team. One difference is that backers must have pledged at $100 or more in order to be eligible to purchase add-ons.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How do we purchase add-ons?

You may purchase add-ons directly from BackerKit when you are filling out your Backer Survey, but the most beneficial way to do it to help us get the campaign funded is to add a credit to your Kickstarter pledge that covers the cost of the items you are going to want to add to your rewards package! You can find the add-on price sheet directly in our Kickstarter campaign story.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Can I purchase a full Hie Bag as an add-on?

No, in order to get a bag you must back a tier with a bag. If you have already done so and want two bags, you can create another account on Kickstarter and back a second time using that account!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

I heard there’s a special offer for original Hie v1 backers? Is that true?

Yes! When the campaign is coming to an end we will be emailing a coupon to our Hie v1 backers so that they can receive a special discount off the total of their BackerKit add-ons.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

I didn’t receive that email. What can I do?

First, please use your inbox’s search function and make sure you are also searching your “Spam,” “Junk,” and “Promotions” folders. The email is coming from [email protected]. If you still don’t see it, please email [email protected] with your original Hie v1 Kickstarter proof of purchase.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

When will rewards ship?

Rewards are estimated to ship September 2019.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Is there any chance the rewards will ship early?

We truly cannot predict this! Our best advice is to not set your expectations on this happening.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What if we are going to move? How will I receive my rewards?

If you are going to be moving, indicate in your Rewards Survey that you will be in touch with an updated shipping address before the projected September ship date. Stay in touch with us via our Facebook Page, through BackerKit, or by emailing [email protected], and we will make sure your rewards ship to the correct address!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

I remember hiccups during fulfillment during the first Hie campaign. Will that happen again?

While anything can happen during a campaign like this, we anticipate this go-round being smoother because we will not be contending with the laws surrounding the transport of lithium ion batteries. As always, we promise to keep our backers informed and assured as they await their rewards!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Why Kickstarter?

Using Kickstarter to bring Hie v2 to life is effective, efficient, and just plain FUN! After two successful Kickstarter campaigns for our team here at The Natural Baby Company, we knew this was the right platform for Hie v2.

What is a Stretch Goal?

Stretch goals are additional goals set by a project creator after the original funding goal is met. Typically, project creators offer more features as stretch goals. For example, they may unlock more colors, more sizes or customizable options – generally, anything to make the product even cooler. Note, though, that even though stretch goals are considered monetary goals, they differ from official funding goals in that the creator keeps the money from backers even if the goal isn’t reached. For example, a project may have a $50,000 funding goal with a $75,000 stretch goal of new color options, but may only raise $68,000. Even though the stretch goal isn’t hit, they still get to keep the $68,000, but they won’t have to offer additional colors. (Art Of The Kickstart: Stretch Goals 101)

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How do Stretch Goals and Stretch Goal Rewards work?

1) Once the initial Kickstarter Funding Goal is met, a STRETCH GOAL may be offered to Backers. 2) The Stretch Goal will essentially state that if the campaign meets a HIGHER funding goal, then new incentives will be unlocked. 3) These new incentives could include additional colors to choose from, more customizable options, etc. 4) A campaign can have multiple stretch goals divulged as the campaign moves along, with each stretch goal “unlocking a new incentive.”

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How can I participate to help reach a Stretch Goal?

1) Simply become a Backer! 2) If you are already a Backer, you can log in and “Manage your pledge.” Increase your pledge to bump yourself up to a higher reward tier. 3) Share… share… share! Share the Hie Kickstarter campaign to encourage friends to become Backers. More Backers = More pledges = Stretch Goals met = more and better rewards!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Do I have to increase my pledge to be eligible for a Stretch Goal reward?

No, you do not. You have the option to increase your pledge to help us meet a Stretch Goal, but if your original pledge tier is eligible for a given reward, you are eligible for that reward.

I have asked questions about plans for the project that have not been answered. Why won't you answer me?

We aren’t purposefully leaving you out! It’s just that our team is still making some decisions. As a backer, you get to be involved in and receive updates on the progress as things are rolling along! We are so happy you are along for this adventure with us.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Won't the integrated key magnet in my Hie Bag's Key Pocket erase my cell phone, credit card, computer, tablet, or car key fob?

The short answer is NO! It would require a MUCH, MUCH more powerful magnet and continued and direct contact with your phone, credit card, computer, tablet, or vehicle key fob for this to even be possible. You are absolutely safe having this size magnet in your bag.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Are Hie v1 accessories compatible with Hie v2, and vice-versa?

Yes! The dimensions of the Hie Bag have not changed, and neither have the dimensions of the Hie Changing Pod or Wallet.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

Did I miss them, or are there no Cooler Pods for v2?

You didn’t miss them! The v1 Cooler Pods were not sellers, so we did not opt to make them this time. You can still grab a v1 Cooler Pod at 40% off at HieBag.com before they’re all gone!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

This is just so exciting! How can we help?

The more you share, the more backers we gather! Even if we fully fund, the more backers we gather, the more we can offer with Hie v2 in the form of Stretch Goal rewards! Share with all your friends who are looking for an amazing diaper bag, carryon bag, or work bag.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

How can I follow Hie on social media?

You can follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/HiebyGroVia and on Instagram at instagram.com/hie_bag. You can also join our fan group on Facebook called The Hie Life to share your Hie-Flying adventures!

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What if I just get a bathrobe in my rewards shipment?

Then you will have the world’s best Kickstarter story.

Last updated: April 15, 2019 09:39

What kind of coffee are you drinking?

Kim is probably drinking a quad breve. Shannon P. is probably drinking a latte made with her brand new espresso machine. Laura is probably drinking cold brew. All three are around Hie social media ready to answer your questions! Hiller and Jennifer are actually machines, and Pat in customer service is made out of pure sunshine. We aren’t sure what kind of coffee they require, but it’s probably some kind of coffee.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
